What exactly is Male Menopause?
Male menopause is just another term coined to delineate a man’s gradually waning sex drive and sexual vigor. As a man grows old, his agility, flexibility, stoutness, and strength start to wear off. Similarly, the sex drive also reduces and the sexual health too gets affected. According to a recent study, 51 % of males aged between 40 and 70 experience changes in their sexual health. It takes longer to get erections, arousals call for direct stimulation of penis, erections are not as rigid as they used to be, ejaculations are early and feeble, and the refractory period between erections increases.
When and How?
Male menopause usually happens between the age of 45 and 60. However, in some cases it can appear early as well. Unlike female menopause, male menopause does not necessarily mean that a man will not be able to father a child. The secretion of testosterone, the hormone responsible for a man’s sexual drive, decreases gradually after the age of 40, and by the age of 55, it decreases considerably.

• Extreme alcohol consumption
• Obesity
• Hypertension
• No physical workout
• Psychological problems
• Smoking
Treatment
Usually, Testosterone Replacement Therapy is used in cases where the testes fail to produce the requisite amount of testosterone. Testosterone is available in varied forms, oral, injections, implants, and trans-dermal. However, oral dose is not usually recommended, for it can lead to liver toxicity. Besides, TRT therapy is not highly recommended for prostate cancer patients.

Here are a few tips on how to deal with male menopause.
• Don’t overstress yourself
• Take a low-fat, balanced diet
• Sleep well
• Go for a physical workout at least four times a week.
• Talk to your friends of your age to know as to how they are dealing with their ageing process.
• Avoid taking alcohol
• Drink plenty of water everyday
• Don’t smoke
